New License Plates available Jan. 3rd

Posted by Nicole
(PIERRE, SD) As of Tuesday South Dakotas most famous faces will once again take center stage on the states vehicle license plates.
January 3rd marked the official start of the states license plate reissue. The newly designed plate, chosen in July of this year by Gov. Mike Rounds from among six designs, features a full-color version of Mount Rushmore as its focal point with the slogan Great Faces, Great Places across the bottom of the plate.

The new design replaces the red, white and blue license plates that were issued beginning in 2000. State law requires new license plates to be issued every five years; the 2000 plates were issued a year ahead of schedule and were intended for use until 2006.

The new license plates will be issued to vehicle owners during their regular license plate renewal period throughout 2006. Vehicle owners whose last names begin with A or B will receive their new plates in January. Due to production issues, organizational plates featuring the same color scheme with a smaller image of Mount Rushmore and the Great Faces slogan, may not be available for issue until Feb. 1.
