Don't take freedoms for granted

As Memorial Day approaches, we should be reminded that it marks much more than just the beginning of summer. Established after the Civil War to honor the nation's war dead, Memorial Day is an opportunity to remember all our country's soldiers, from America's earliest war, the American Revolution to Iraq, who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy today.

Last Tuesday evening, after 8th grade graduation, Kenny, Adam, Aaron and Janet Schindler, Reliance, visited in the Dick and Sandy Dyson home.

See Your Neighbor Club met at the Zeanna Halverson home Thursday evening, May 20, 2004, with 7 members and a guest-Darline Miller. Cards were played with Twyla Herman winning high and Gladys Manger low. Twyla will be the June hostess.

[b]Lyman holds 32nd Commencement exercises[/b]

Lyman High School commencement exercises were held Sunday, May 16, 2004 at the school gym in Presho.

Superintendent Bruce Carrier recognized retiring School Board chairman Karen Willis with a plaque of appreciation. Willis served on the board for nine years. Also recognized was Doris Schnabel, who has been serving hot lunches at the Presho school site for the past 28 years.

[b]Reliance to celebrate Centennial June 25, 2005[/b]

The Reliance Centennial committee met April 17th with approximately 20 people in attendance to plan and discuss the upcoming 2005 centennial celebration.

A two day event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26, 2005.

The logo/slogan contest was awarded to April Reis-Elwood for her slogan, "A Good Town for a Home Town". She was awarded a $50.00 savings bond donated by the city of Reliance.

Different working committees were formed and will deliver reports at the next Centennial meeting Saturday, July 10th at 2:00 progress. Examples of SOME of the committees are....parade, food, horse races, kids games, lawn mower races, air balloon rides and alumni.

Anyone interested in being involved with the celebration is encouraged to attend.
