Utility truck tips over

Thursday afternoon an utility truck being used to drill holes for new light poles along highway 248 through Presho tipped over on its side.

According to Kevin Logan of Logan Electric, Gettysburg, the owner of the truck, workmen had moved the boom into position to order to move to the next drill site. The weight of the boom apparently settled causing the truck to gradually tip to the right. No one was near the truck when it slowly went over onto its side. The incident happened near the Coachlight Inn driveway.

A crane was brought into town on Friday and the truck was set back up by late afternoon. According to Logan the truck did not suffer any mechanical damage but sustained approximately $ 5,000 in body damage.

Visitors to Presho will soon be greeted by lights from I-90 exit 225 west through town to exit 226.

Logan Electric of Gettysburg was awarded the contract. Work started on the $ 125,327 South Dakota Department of Transportation project last week.

Logan Electric will complete all phases of the project from the concrete work to setting of the poles. Crews started digging holes for the concrete bases Thursday, August 18th. Thirty-one 40 foot galvanized steel poles will be installed along the highway through town. According to contractor Kevin Logan the majority of the work will be done within the next 3 to 4 weeks. The poles are expected to arrive sometime after October 1st. The expected completion date of the project is October 31st.

The city of Presho will cover about 18% of the cost, which could run around $ 20,000. Once the project is completed ownership and maintenance of the lighting system will be turned over the city of Presho.

A lighted road through Presho will be a great addition to our community. Its a progressive step towards inviting travelers to stop in Presho, said Neal Brakke of New Frontier Station.
