New school year starts
By Lucy Halverson

A new school year kicks off Wednesday, August 19 at Lyman School sites.  Monday, teachers and staff gathered for a staff pre-school meeting and lunch.

New staff members were introduced and welcomed to the school.  They include Beth Bacon, Presho Elementary first grade teacher. Bacon previously taught in Lower Brule and Lyman elementary schools.  She holds a MA from the University of SD.

Presho third grade teacher Amber DeBoer is a May 2009 graduate of Jamestown College, Jamestown, ND.   She hails from Huron, SD.

Kennebec Elementary Title I Reading Recovery teacher Heather Whetham is from the Colome area.  She is a graduate of Northern State University and previously taught at Leola.

Mary Floyd and Tabatha Harmon have been hired as teacher aides at Presho and Brenda Hollenback will assist elementary teachers at Kennebec.

Enrollment numbers are expected to be slightly under 400, with Kennebec Elementary gaining 18 more students than expected from last years count. Superintendent Bruce Carrier  stated more exact numbers will be known by next week once students settle in to their classes.
