Ruth P. Spencer, 79 of Sturgis, SD died at the Sturgis Community Long Term Care Center on Wednesday, April 28, 2004.
Ruth was born at Mt. Vernon, SD on April 14, 1925 to Elmer and Sybil (Harrower) May. She was married to Maynard J. Spencer at Rapid City, SD on May 1, 1946. The couple lived at White Lake where they operated a cafe for about 3 years and later moved to Presho. From Presho they move to Sturgis in 1973 and she has made her home there since. While in Sturgis, Ruth worked for the Sturgis Municipal Liquor Store and for the Job Service.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and enjoyed being a volunteer at the Fort Meade Veterans Hospital. Ruth also enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include one son, Glenn and his wife Glenda Spencer of Sturgis and two grandchildren, Justin and his wife, Sheila Spencer of Washington and Britt and her husband Chad Smith of Prescott Valley, AZ. and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, and one grandson Jason and one sister Ella and two brothers, Jack and Bill May and her parents.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2004 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Rev. Keith Nelson officiating. Burial at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
