The Lyman School Board held their September meeting at the Kennebec site Monday night to allow board members the opportunity to view the repairs and improvements made to the building over the summer.
Two bids received on the surplus Chevy van were opened; Wayne Borah bid $500 but Angela Ehlers had the high bid of $526.
The board approved a list of surplus items to be sold at auction Wednesday, October 10 at 5 PM at the storage building south of the mini gym.
Superintendent Douglas Eppard reported 2012-2013 enrollment numbers to the board. As of Monday, September 10, there are 367 students attending Lyman; 98 - High School; 86 - Middle School; 84 - Presho Elem.; and 97 - Kennebec Elem. Eppard also gave the break down by community; 115 students - Lower Brule; 113 students - Presho; 69 students - Kennebec; 41 students - Reliance; 25 students – Vivian; and four students open enrolled from outside the district.
Board member Bob Fanning asked about the online calculus class currently being offered to approximately five students that is short of text books and computers. Superintendent Eppard said the problem was being addressed. In the past students have signed up for the class in the spring and then decide to drop it in the fall. Eppard said he waited to see how many showed up before ordering the correct number books and computers.
Lyman counselor Brittany Reuman presented test results from the state testing Lyman students took last spring. More information will be published in next week’s Herald regarding the results.
Other action taken included:
*Approved lane changes for Beth Bacon, Jackie Bender, Jessica McManus, and Joette Nesladek.
*Approved a bus driving contract for Carol Erickson to drive the pre-school bus between Presho and Kennebec.
