Leone Schooler, 91

Leone Schooler, 91, Pierre, died peacefully at her home on Friday, December 12, 2003. Funeral service were held Friday, December 19, 2003, at 10:00 am, First United Methodist Church, Pierre, SD. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery, Pierre, SD. Memorials can be directed to First United Methodist Church, Pierre.

Leone E. Farrell was born April 25, 1912, in Reliance, SD to Allen T and Ruth (Bartholow) Farrell. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Reliance High School in 1930. From 1930-35 she taught school in rural Lyman County. Leone spent one year in Washington, D.C. where she worked at the Department of Agriculture from 1936-37. On July 31, 1937, she married James Clay Schooler, and they begun their life together in Elkton, SD. In 1941, they moved to Sherman, SD, and then to Pierre in 1942, where they have lived to the present time.

Leone was a member of First United Methodist Church and an honorary member of Elizabeth Circle. She served as church secretary from 1958-1964. She was active in PTA. Girl Scouts, and the hospital auxiliary. Her hobbies included homemaking, sewing, reading, and gardening.

Survivors include her husband, daughters Jeanine (Terry) Woodward of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda Bettison of St. Cloud, MN, Lauren "Shirley" (Nicholas) Karastergiou of New York City, NY; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
