Student count down for the 2018-19 school year

By Angela Eves/LCH
Following the first couple weeks of school principals Rene Lillebo, Kennebec and Robin Curtis, Presho report enrollment numbers are down from last fall.
In 2017 there were 382 students enrolled during the first week of school, compared to 363 students currently enrolled for the 2018-19 school year.
These numbers change often as the school year gets started. The last Friday in September is the official enrollment count day for South Dakota schools. Enrollment numbers on that date will be used by the state to help determine state funding for the following school year.
As of Friday, September 7, Lyman High School had 98 students enrolled, which is the same count from last fall. According to Superintendent Rob Davis, the incoming freshman class has 29 students, 27 sophomores, 25 juniors and a small graduating senior class of 17 students.
Presho Elementary has an enrollment count of 83 students K-5, compared to 2017 at 81 students, and 17 students attending the preschool program.
Kennebec Middle School also reported lower numbers for the 2018-19 school year.
In 2017 middle school enrollment was 89 students. This year there are currently 81 students enrolled.
Kennebec Elementary has 101 students, which is up compared to last year’s count of 97 students.
At this time there are no foreign exchange students or student teachers at Lyman this school year, but that could change as the school year begins.
