LHS Pep Band plays at Girls’ State B Tournament

The Lyman High School pep band served as ‘Band of the Day’ at the Girls’ Class B State Basketball Tournament held at the Huron Arena on Thursday, March 7, 2019. The band, under the direction of D. Scott and Julie Muirhead, played prior to each of the four contests and at halftime for each. The band performed all 37 selections in the pep folder, six different school songs, and the national anthem. Lyman band director, D. Scott Muirhead commented, “Huron was an outstanding host. We have played at 14 state events in the 27 years I’ve been at Lyman. The Huron Arena was clearly the ‘best fit’ venue we’ve ever had for our group.” Huron Arena Manager, Terry Rotert, said of the Lyman Band in an e-mail sent to the director, “It was an honor to host your band. Not only did they sound great, they were very well behaved and respectful. That is a tribute to you as their director. Thanks again for sharing your band with the fans in attendance. It was a great day in the Huron Arena.” The Lyman High School pep band typically plays at a state tournament on a bi-annual basis, but in an unusual twist performed at both the state football championships and the Girls’ B Basketball tournament during the 2018-19 school year.
