A chilly St. Patrick’s Day in Presho

Presho’s 37th Annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration was brought in by a March storm of wind and snow just days before the March 16 event. City crews worked all day Friday plowing the streets to haul off an estimated 6-inches of snow to get ready for the big event. Thirty-eight runners/walkers braved the 30 degree temperatures to participate in the 31st running of the Shamrock Shuffle.  Because of all the snow, ice and slush from the storm, the route was changed to a route on old Highway 16 west of town and back. The winners of the Shamrock Shuffle were Shay VanDenemel, Ft. Pierre with a time of 18:05 and the women’s winner was Kari Blasius from Kimball with a time of  27:05. The winning float in the parade was the Ancient Ireland, the Koenig float with a Jurassic Park theme. Coming in second place was Living in the Winter Paradise, an ice fishing float driven by Louie Slominski and friends riding along. Until next year, may the luck of the Irish be with you.
