Last day of school at Lyman set for May 17

The last day of classes for Lyman students this year will be May 17 after the board of education approved adding four days to the calendar at Monday night’s board meeting. The district missed nine days of school due to weather during the 2018-19 school year. Lyman Superintendent Rob Davis recommended to the board that four of the nine days be added to the calendar with students attending through Friday, May 17 and adding a work day to the teacher’s schedule for Monday, May 20. He assured the board that school would still meet the Department of Education’s requirements. Lyman’s High School graduation is set for Saturday, May 11 at 2:00 pm at the Presho gym. Davis updated the board on the building project that has started at both the Presho and Kennebec sites. He stated there has been an issue at the Kennebec site already when excavators discovered more old buried concrete from the old Kennebec school building that they were not made aware of earlier.
Building committee member Matt Collins stated he informed Arch, Inc. about the buried concrete and that should have been related to contractors during the bid process.
